MAHALAXMI GEARS UP FOR INDIA’S MOST PRESTIGIOUS TURF SEASON 2025-2026

The Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) is set to launch the Mumbai Racing Season 2025–2026 at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse from Thursday, 27th November 2025. The four-and-a-half-month season will feature 26 race days and will conclude in mid-April 2026.

 

BIG STAKES, STRONG PARTICIPATION

Stakes exceeding ₹30 crore will be distributed this season, making it one of the richest racing calendars in the country. Nearly 800 horses, including 280 two-year-olds, are expected to compete. More than 30 ‘A’-licensed trainers will saddle runners, led by veteran champion Pesi Shroff, alongside Adhirajsingh Jodha, Imtiaz A. Sait, Narendra Lagad, Faisal Abbas, P.S. Chouhan, and several other established professionals. By the end of the season around 100 visiting horses are expected to take part in the gala events during the course of the season

TOP JOCKEYS IN ACTION

All major jockeys from across India are slated to participate. The line-up includes A. Sandesh, Trevor Patel, Suraj Narredu, G. Vivek, Neeraj Rawal, C.S. Jodha, and the highly promising apprentice Aditya Waydande. Their presence is expected to ensure close finishes and highly competitive racing throughout the season.

TRACK IN PRIME CONDITION

The Mahalaxmi track, regarded as one of the premier racing surfaces in Asia, has been readied for sustained action. Officials indicate that the turf is in excellent condition and capable of handling the high-intensity schedule planned over the next four and a half months.

FLAGSHIP EVENTS

The season will host India’s most prestigious events, headed by the Indian Derby (Grade 1) on 1st February 2026, sponsored by the Poonawalla Family. The Indian Racing Carnival, also supported by the Poonawallas, will take place on 4th and 5th April 2026, serving as the grand finale of the season.

  • 4 & 5 April 2026 – Indian Racing Carnival
